Welcome to The Rabbit Hole!

Welcome to the 1st edition of The Rabbit Hole. This newsletter will cover all things in the wacky world of our friend group. I’ve had the idea of a newsletter for almost exactly a year. The idea was sparked by my good buddy, Keegan, who dreamed I started a weekly Wacky Rabbits newsletter. I thought it was a funny dream, but it also made me want to turn that dream into a reality. I told Keegan I’d send the first edition out the following Wednesday…

But I forgot; the idea fizzled out and left my brain… until recently when Keegan and I were reminiscing on last year’s June Birthday Bash. So I figured there’s no better time than the present (and I have a lot of downtime at work). And here it is!

I’m going to keep the first edition brief and more of an announcement rather than a full newsletter full of content, for the simple reason that I’m writing this on Tuesday night and have an impatient girlfriend on the phone waiting for me to finish it.

Life Update: Not a ton is new to me. Work is work. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my first two and a half weeks working a desk job at a government company, it’s not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I suppose people always say you have to try things to know whether you like them or not. This will be a learning experience. It’s not all bad. I love being creative, and I get to do that most days. I’m starting to learn that I enjoy shooting videos. I began to get that clue during my Advanced TV class this past semester, but just today, I was sent to get photos and videos of this bulk water station, which was simply a shed and a wooden sign in the middle of nowhere, Ohio. Despite that, I was there for probably around 30 minutes, shooting different angles and trying things out. It was the most fun I’ve had all week. That may sound depressing, but I find it to be therapeutic. Maybe some filmmaking is in my future. I don’t know about movies, but vlogs or other miscellaneous stuff could be fun.

My inspiration lately has come from a few different creators, but over the past six months, Jack Cook has significantly influenced my creativity. I love his filming style and how he’s reinvented the formerly hyper-popular “daily vlog” format. He’s also the one who’s inspired me to start a newsletter. I read his every week, which made me want to start one of my own. I’m sure none of you care about this, so I’ll wrap up my rambling there. Just what I’ve been up to lately, and a look at my inner monologue.

I did enjoy writing that, though, so I may start a personal blog outside of this one. Who knows.

Last thing on the creative side, I’ve been itching to start taking the skit stuff seriously. Since I stopped doing movie tiktoks, I haven’t had an outlet for my content brain, so starting doing those will help. It’ll also give me some actual content that I can be proud of to put on my resume for the barstool internship next summer. I’m sure I’ll talk more about that in a future issue.

I want to try out more structured segments, so a me update could be one of those. I like Cam’s idea of Rabbit of the Month, so maybe I can work that into this. Finding ways to keep it from hurting other people’s (mine) feelings will be challenging. We shall see.

This will be fluid. Many changes will come. I’m still nowhere near sold on the logo, which will probably be changed. Just bear with me while I refine this thing for us.

Favorite New Bits: Slack has been a hit. We’ll see how long it’ll be active, but I love that people constantly add new channels and engage with one another. I want to think I’m doing my part in keeping things fresh. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

This won’t be a typical edition on a week-to-week basis as I am still ironing out what exactly I want this to be, but that’s where you guys come in! I want this to be a platform where we can document memories, bits, and anything else we’d like to add. Ultimately, I want this to be a collaboration between all of us to make this silly newsletter the best it can be!

I’ve created a Slack channel dedicated to The Rabbit Hole, so feel free to share any ideas or changes you’d like to see in future editions.

If you read all of that, thank you. I will catch you guys next Wednesday.

p.s. this was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to do more of these.
