The Rabbit Hole - 14th Edition

Welcome back to The Rabbit Hole! I’m moving to LA?

Life Update: Ahhhhh clickbait. After a decent week, I had quite the ripper of a weekend. I kicked things off on Thursday night by calling the UT Women’s soccer game. I hadn’t watched much soccer until this year but ever since I got into the premier league my soccer knowledge has of course increased drastically, so when I was asked to do play-by-play for the game I was eager to oblige. I spent the bulk of Thursday prepping for the game and came up with this beaut of a board…

Which I was very proud of. When I call my next one, I’ll have a ton more time to prep so that I can do the opposing team which will result in a better quality broadcast overall. Pretty boring game, though. We scored in the 3rd minute but it got called offsides, and we lost 1-0.

Friday was a ton of fun as the boys met a few of the Friday Beers guys. It’s weird meeting people you’ve listened to talk for tens of hours, to the point that you feel like they’re just one of the guys. The problem with that is it’s only a one-way street and before the three-minute chat you had, didn’t know of your existence. Meeting Will and Rusty was really cool, and thankfully a “don’t meet your heroes” situation. Again, just feels odd when you admire people who are only 2-3 years older than you.

The event was an overall massive success with not only meeting everyone, but Cam and I put our networking hats on and got to work on the CEO of Friday Beers. I credit a lot of this to the fact that a tequila brand was sponsoring the event and girls were walking around with platters of shots like they were Hors D'oeuvres at a fancy dinner event. I initiated way more conversations than I would have had I not been off the Devil’s Reserve. We made a connection with Jack Barrett, who explained he was the CEO of the company and we even took a shot together. For the past four years or so, I’ve had a laser focus on getting a job at Barstool, but ever since I started consuming more and more Friday Beers content, the larger the desire to work for them became. It’s a new media entity that feels naturally more modern and focused on comedy more than anything else, which I’ve always been more keen on than sports content. Obviously no guarantees, but ever since that day I can’t stop daydreaming about working there.

Saturday was a LONG day but was the real main event of the weekend as the boys kicked it for U of M vs. USC. We were drinking and getting blasted by the sun for 10+ hours, but boy was it a great time. I probably overdid it early on but I mellowed out toward the end of the night. Ricks was playing some fucking HITS and I was loving it. Danced my ass off and fended off some chick who tried to dance with Chrissy D. I hit her with the stiff arm and relocated myself to another area of the dance floor.

Cam and I had this Twitter exchange and when I saw it the morning after I was overcome with regret. I had the golden opportunity to have an all-time reply with “C’mon Collins you know I’m spoken for.” Not only an appropriate reply but extremely topical and timely as we just met Chet Collins and the Friday Beers guys the previous day. When you think of the perfect comeback later in the shower. SMH.

Capped off the weekend, Sunday with a Lions win and all my bets losing. I was on a terrible dry spell after Monday night’s games and knew I needed to see the ball go through the hoop. So I answered on Tuesday with three absolute WHALES of MLB plays which turned $6.46 to $9.38. All -500 odds and I just need to hit like 12 more straight to get $100. Follow the journey! (I have a problem and need to be publicly shamed).

Creative Corner: Been a busy couple of weeks ever since we wrapped up filming the regular season of trivia. I haven’t forgotten, I’m just trying to get everything written before I start filming anything. I came up with some new concepts for playoffs which I’m hoping you guys will enjoy. The response to the first few episodes has been great and I appreciate everyone for liking and commenting. If you’d like to change your niche category for playoffs I’d like for you to message me by the end of this week.

TCS is going well. I truly haven’t watched more than 5 movies in the last 3 weeks, so I’m running dry on topics to talk about on the show. Thankfully, we’re about to dive head first into awards season which should give me plenty to talk about. Also, the show is now being recorded directly onto an archive so I now have absolutely no excuse to delay uploading them anymore. I just have a lot of stuff to do.

Content I’ve Consumed this Week Cave: Not a ton of movies, but G and I finished the book we were reading. I really enjoyed it and the ending was satisfying. I’m sure we’ll read more in the future but I told her I needed a reading break. Maybe I’ll pick up Dune, just for you, Andrew.

Riffin’ Recap: Lots to pull from last weekend, but a funny moment from Friday night was when we were at the Friday Beers event, I trailed off from the rest of the group to go see what a few of the guys were doing, but it immediately backfired when I was on Willy D’s tail and he turns to me and goes “hey you look like you need a shot.” The company’s name literally includes an alcoholic beverage so there was no saying “no” to that. I took one from the nearest platter thinking maybe he’d take one as well but he just kept walking, leaving me alone with a shot in my hand. So I naturally dipped out to a discreet location and shamefully took the shot alone. To make matters worse, when I returned to the group the shot platters had made their way over to them so we all took another shot together, and finally, a last shorty pulled up and forced us to take one more, making it three shots for me within two minutes which is a recipe for disaster. I still had a great time.

I’ll be heading home again this weekend to pull to my family’s tailgate for the Michigan game which should be a lot of fun. If anyone’s gonna be in the area, hit me up for the details, you know us Arabs go hard.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!!! MISS YOU LOVE YOU KISSES.
