The Rabbit Hole - 9th Edition

Welcome back to The Rabbit Hole!

Life Update: As summer comes to a close, I find myself getting more and more busy. We’ve only got a few weeks before everyone heads back to school, but there’s still a lot to look forward to. I’ve got a week and a half of my Internship remaining and I’m elated to be done. I’ll write my full thoughts on the experience after it’s officially done, so stay tuned for that.

The day after my last day, I’m taking a one-way flight to Wisconsin to drive back to MI with Guntaaz, stopping in Chicago for a couple nights on the way. I’m very much looking forward to that. I spent a couple of hours researching things to do, and having just been to the Chi last weekend, The Doc has already provided me with some inspo for what activities we should be partaking in.

Immediately following my return to the Mitten, I’ll be hopping right into the car and driving north for the Rabbit’s end-of-summer blowout trip! We were talking about it this weekend, but this trip feels like an especially big deal after this summer of ghosts. We haven’t all been together since the Birthday Bash at the end of June so having this trip in place right before we depart for school is gonna be huge.

That’s the future, but let’s talk past. This weekend was a blast in Chiraq. It didn’t get off to the best start, as I forgot the air mattress, but we rallied and made it a great weekend. Here is a photo recap:

Thank you Avery for being such a gracious host. Fuck couch guy 4L.

Creative Corner: TCS went well this week, although I used the wrong SD card to record so that wasn’t the best. I’ve been good about recording the last few episodes though so I’m not too worried. I’m excited for the school year to start because I have some ideas on how I can expand the show so I’ll get cooking on those next month.

Content I’ve Consumed this Week Cave: Watched a few M. Night movies in preparation for Trap. Watched that on Thursday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Shyamalan is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. His movies are just laced with honest stories about family and love. I’d recommend giving a few of his movies a try if you’re in the mood for something different. HMU if you’re interested and I’ll guide you on where to start.

The House of the Dragon S2 finale aired on Sunday and it had the internet in a frenzy. I’m not sure I’ve seen such a universally hated season of TV since GOT S8. I talked about it on my show but I think this season took a dip in quality from the first season. A lot of the characters felt stagnant and the pacing was very slow. If there were two more episodes we’d be having a much different conversation right now. Luckily season 3 feels like it will be all gas no brakes which is what people said leading up to this season, but there isn’t anything holding the next season from being great. We’ll just have to wait 2 more years, unfortunately.

There are a couple TV shows I’ll be looking forward to soon. I’m excited for The Penguin and to fill my fantasy TV fix for the time being, Rings of Power S2 premieres later this month. Big Brother 26 has been great so far, I’m enjoying that. I also just started watching Presumed Innocent on Apple TV with G which has been great so far.

Riffin’ Recap: I’ll just quickly highlight our night out on Saturday. We had a lot of fun pregaming at Avery’s playing Cheers to the Governor. Great game, vroom skrrt was what did me in on several occasions. We landed at a few bars/pubs which I don’t have a ton of recollection of. and OH.

This is what I really should be writing about… I woke up on Sunday morning having to shit so I pooped in Avery’s bathroom, flushed anddddddd I clogged the toilet. In a panic, I searched for a plunger but to no avail. So I pulled my pants up and did the only thing I could think of. Hopped in my shoes and darted out to town in search of a plunger. Target was a 10-minute walk and I wanted to go to a place I knew would have one. When I got there I located the plunger and saw it was $30. I really didn’t want to go anywhere else, so I swallowed my pride and choked out the change for this mistake eraser. I didn’t ever grab a bag so I was trekking through the streets of Chicago with a raw plunger in hand. People knew the deal. They saw a man walking with only a plunger to his name at 9:15 am. There’s only one logical conclusion. I arrived back and just when I thought the nightmare was over, I knocked on the door and Avery’s roommate answered the door. He takes one look at me and I feel judgment like I’ve never felt before. But I got in, did the job, and went back to watching Summerslam. Not my proudest moment but one that I’ll look back on with glee and laughter.

Rabbit Spotlight: The final Rabbit to step under the spotlight had a long wait, but Cam finally gets his shine. Let’s hear what he’s got to say, shall we?

Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Green - like a dark green

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Gotta be authentic tacos

Q: What is your favorite Rabbit bit? (past or present)
A: "Never did see that guy again" was killing me in Chicago. "Is waffle stomping canon?" is a random one that comes to mind. Rabbits C team was legendary this summer, good bit. Enhance enhance is gold. There are so many bits I can't even think of, we've got some funny shit.

Q: What is your fondest memory involving the Rabbits?
A: All the packed cars and packed sleeping arrangements we've made on all of our trips are underrated memories that I always appreciate. Another one is when yall visited me at Rutgers, I was literally on cloud nine that was the best weekend ever.

Q: What is your favorite trip you’ve been on with the Rabbits?
A: LA for the rose bowl was a lot of fun, wasn't a super iconic rabbits trip in the sense that it was really only a few of us but I really enjoyed being out on the west coast. I think NYC and first year DC trip top my list as well as Miami of course. The NYC trip was special as I visited Rutgers for the first time and also just had so much fun with everything we did. That first DC trip with the basketball tournament was just straight electricity. Tengo sueños.

Q: What are your hopes for the Rabbits in the future?
A: Man I just wish everyone happiness and health. I hope to see everyone thrive. I would say I wish that we'll all stay connected and in touch but that's essentially a given, which is great. I hope some of us end up in the same areas after college, wherever it may be.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add about our awesome friend group?
A: I swear I'd be nowhere without yall. You guys motivate me everyday just by existing.

I'm so lucky to have all of you. I had a rough end to my school year, and a difficult few months but yall were like the shining light that kept me going; knowing I had the Rabbits meant knowing that I'd be okay. I'm tearing up right now man. I've taken yall for granted in the past, like spending so much of last summer in New Jersey or having the shordy around even when I was here. Summer should've always been rabbit time, especially when I'm gone for the whole school year. But even so, the rabbits were here when I was coming back this summer and needing yall the most.

We're all so lucky and I cherish every memory I've shared with you guys and will continue to share. Thanks for being awesome.

I’m not crying, you’re crying. What I love most about the Rabbits is we’ll always be there for each other. Maybe we aren’t always open and vulnerable consistently, but when one of us is down and needs support, we’re always right there to have their back. That type of love is rare.

I’ve had a blast with this segment, and It’s always my favorite one to cover, so I’m sad to see it end. Of course, a segment that has spotlight in the title can’t end without ole’ Chrissy D getting a crack at it, so I’ll be answering the questions next week, and after that, I’ll come up with a new interactive segment that we can start up.

Great fun hearing from everyone, talk again next week!
