The Rabbit Hole - 13th Edition

Welcome back to The Rabbit Hole! We’re so back.

Life Update: Off the top, I’d like to apologize for missing last week. I blame Guntaaz, she reminds me every week sooooo it’s not my fault.

I had a slow week, but a productive weekend. During the week, I had an assignment for my Intro to Film class that just consisted of watching a movie and writing about it, which is what I do in my free time so it’s safe to say I’m gonna enjoy that one.

Things really started to pick up on Saturday when I took a trip to Costco. I’m still up and down on the whole Costco in college experience, there’s definitely a learning curve. I’ve started freezing items that I won’t have to use for a while, but still am unsure if the whole thing is worth it. I’m kinda locked in with the membership, but I do miss just spending $30 at Aldi every week.

After Costco, I headed to finally get my phone charging port cleaned. I‘ve had to use my wireless charger for the past couple of weeks because the thing wouldn’t charge, so that was a big weight off my shoulders. I was on a run of errands, so I then headed to Target to pick up what I didn’t want bulk quantities of, and this made me a lot more appreciative of Costco because I literally got like 5-6 items at Target and it was $60. I forgot how fucking expensive Target is.

I was near a Barnes & Noble so I decided to pop in there to check out their Blu-Ray/Criterion selection, which was LOADED. I should’ve taken a picture I was in absolute heaven. I was a bit disheartened after getting to the section because they had moved stuff around since I had last been there, but I eventually found the holy grail of Criterion’s. I’m talking a whole row solely dedicated to them. I’m sure this means nothing to anyone reading this but I almost shed a tear.

I finally wrapped up my outing by heading over to the edit bay in Rocket Hall and got grinding on the Trivia Tails episodes. By the time you’re reading this, you’ll have hopefully already watched or at least seen that I uploaded Jmart’s episode on Tuesday, and episode 2 will release on Friday. I plan to keep that Tuesday-Friday format for the next month until the Regular season wraps up, and finally, I’ll start uploading Playoffs after that.

My Saturday nightcap was watching Toledo beat the shit out of Mississippi State, which was a joy. I mostly had the game on mute, because Guntaaz and I began reading a book together on Friday. She went to the library and picked one out and I downloaded it on my computer. It’s called There Should Have Been Eight and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It’s a mystery book set in a mansion, so it’s giving Knives Out and Clue vibes. Anyway, before we started dating, I hadn’t read a book from start to finish probably since elementary school. Reading isn’t too bad, but movies will always have my heart. Still, I could be heading toward “guy who reads” status soon if I keep this up.

Sunday was truly one of the worst days of my life, as I woke up bright and early to watch the North London Derby which is when Tottenham and Arsenal play. I placed a substantial amount of money on Spurs to score a (1) goal and the final was 1-0 Arsenal so my day was off to a poor start. I then recorded the final trivia episode of the regular season with The Doc, and finally, 1 pm hit and you know what that means. I love it when the Lions have prime-time games because that means I can just kick back and watch Red Zone all day without having to stress about my team but last week, Detroit had a 1 pm game. I thought Tampa would be an easy W after an up-and-down OT win over the Rams, but boy did Baker take it to us. This was by far Jared Goff’s worst performance as a Lion thus far, and the offense as a whole was miserable. We need to get back to what got us to the NFC Championship and that’s run the ball. Ben Johnson was dialing up all these cute plays when we have the most fearsome backfield random in the league, paired with the best O-Line in the league. There is simply no excuse why we can’t run the ball all three downs all the way down the field. Especially when Vita Vea went down.

I also went on to lose every single bet I had the rest of Sunday and Monday. My mom says I need to settle down. Don’t worry, I’ll just win it all back on TNF.

Creative Corner: Long life update, eh? I guess I’m a busy guy or I just went way too far into detail on my mundane weekly activities, let me know! Anyways, Trivia has been my main focus in the past week. Unfortunately, it’s not looking like I’ll be able to start filming playoffs until next week because I’ve already had quite a busy week and it’s not slowing down. Scheduling two people for one time is going to be a challenge, but I look forward to it! I’m going to be changing up the categories based on regular season performance and what people tend to like more. You will be allowed to change your niche category for playoffs so if you’d like to change things up, think about it and let me know asap so that I have time to write the question. If you don’t reach out to me, I’ll assume you’re sticking with your original niche topic. It seems like people like trivia which is exciting for me because it’s one of my favorite things I’ve done recently. Since the Jmart episode went live and I posted about it, I’ve had multiple people reach out asking how they can get involved, so casting for season 2 has already begun, which I’m amped about.

Content I’ve Consumed this Week Cave: Book! I can’t believe I’m saying this but most of my week has consisted of reading rather than watching shows or movies or even listening to podcasts.

Riffin’ Recap: I ran into a guy at Barnes & Noble who was also browsing the vinyl and Blu-ray section and he struck up a conversation about the hay day of physical media and how it’s becoming a lost art which I of course agreed with. The decline is becoming more and more rapid for physical movies especially. You see fewer and fewer mainstream stores selling them and that’s so sad to me. I get it though, not too many people searching for physical movies anymore. Still sad, shoutout out to that dude.

I’m amped for the rest of the week and this weekend especially. The boys are gonna be back in town for an absolute menace of a weekend. I can’t wait to pitch my sketches to the Friday Beers boys. Which one should I lead with, though??

That’s all I got. See you boys on Friday, eh?
